What Is FSH ?
FSH is an acronym which stands for Follicle Stimulating Hormone. Hormones are chemicals in your body that are made in one place and are used in another.
Antral Follicle Count
Two useful markers for ascertaining fertility are your ovarian reserve and AFC. The first refers to the number of eggs that are available for fertilization. AFC is the number of antral follicles present in the ovary on Day 3 using vaginal ultrasound scanning.
LH Test
The Luteinizing Hormone (LH) is necessary for fertility. In women, LH helps regulate ovulation. In men, LH helps the testes to make and secrete testosterone. It can be measured by a simple blood test called the Luteinizing Hormone Test.
Testing Your Ovarian Reserve
How do we test your ovarian reserve? The standard test used to be a blood test to measure your FSH level. This correlates inversely with the number of eggs that you have left in your ovaries. Women with a poor ovarian reserve are said to have reached their Oopause.
Day 3: FSH Test To Determine Fertility
FSH (Follicle Stimulating Hormone) stimulates the growth of the egg-bearing follicles in your ovaries. FSH levels vary during the menstrual cycle and are best measured at its peak or baseline (basal) level.
Day 3 Inhibin Test To Determine Fertility
This was an older test used to check ovarian reserve. The higher your Inhibin level, the better your ovarian reserve. Levels of Inhibin B decrease with age, as your ovarian reserve gets depleted. The Day 3 Inhibin B blood test is performed on Day 3 of your menstrual cycle.
AMH Test To Determine Fertility
AMH (Anti-Mullerian Hormone), also called MIS (Mullerian Inhibiting Substance) is produced directly by the ovarian follicles. Women with lower AMH have lower antral follicular counts and produce a lower number of oocytes. AMH level testing can also be very useful for young women who want to postpone childbearing , but want to check their fertility potential before doing so.
