Success Stories: Mumbai couple await their baby!

We were living in the Gulf and have recently moved to Mumbai. Both of us are bankers. I'm 35yrs old and my husband 37. We did not try to have a baby for about 10yrs as we both were concentrating on our career and were very happy with our life. Then suddenly we started feeling very lonely and the thought of having a baby was on top of our mind. I'm unable to explain what caused this change till date! Like in the movies we thought we just need to have unprotected sex for couple of times and we will have a baby in 9months. We started actively trying but nothing happened for 8mths. Then we approached a leading infertility specialist in the Gulf. I was diagnosed with PCOS (PolyCystic Ovarian Syndrome) and had no other problem.
I was put on Metformin for about 3months and was asked to take insulin resistance test to check it was under control. We were asked to try again as many women conceive once insulin resistance is under control. We tried for couple of months and gave up as we felt our biological clock is ticking and it might be hard to conceive naturally as we were not able to take the pressure. We approached the doctor and he suggested us to go for IUI first. I started the injections for superovulation and follicle growth was monitored regularly. IUI procedure was done once the follicles were mature enough. It was not successful. We were very hopeful that it would be successful. I was very upset and couldn't concentrate on my work and avoided seeing people as well.
We decided to take a break for couple of months and then try again while continuing to take metformin.
At that time my husband got a job in Mumbai. After giving a lot of thought he accepted the offer. One reason for the move is that we believed that a change of place might do good for us. Couple of months later we moved to Mumbai. We had no clue about the city as it was our first visit ever. We took couple of months to settle down. We have heard that Mumbai has got a lot of good infertility specialists particularly about Dr. Malpani.
When we were in the Gulf a good friend of ours suggested us to read a book "How to have a baby" by Dr. Malpani. We read that immediately and were really impressed. We got so much information in just one book and the best part is that the emotional aspect is also covered in the book. Chapters 29 - 34 is really good and we had made the decision that we shall visit Dr.Malpani as soon as we get settled in Mumbai.
We wrote to him asking for an appointment and to our surprise we got a response the same day giving us an appointment for the following day. We thought we might have to wait for at least a month to get an appointment!
Our first meeting with Dr. Aniruddha Malpani went very well. We were to the point and were asking about our options assuming that he is a very busy man and will not have time to for lengthy conversation.. To our surprise, he asked us to talk to him first, tell about ourselves and speak about our feelings before getting to the consultation part. This gave us a lot of comfort. He then gave us the options and we immediately decided to go for IVF/ICSI. The very next week the treatment started. I was given the superovulation injections and was very carefully monitored for follicle growth. This is when we met Dr. Anjali Malpani. She was very patient and cleared all my doubts gladly and was very friendly. The conversation with her was not restricted to follicle size and numbers but to other general matters as well. I felt very comfortable with her too.
I had not grown many follicles and hence Dr.Aniruddha asked us to decide, explaining the situation well, whether we want to go ahead with the procedure or not. It was very clear that he was concerned about his patients and the success rate and was certainly not money minded. Having spent so much of time and effort we decided to take a chance.
Dr. Anjali Malpani did the egg retrieval successfully and I was discharged the same night. The procedure itself wasn't painful but I had a bit of discomfort for couple of days.
Two days later I was asked to undergo embryo transfer. Dr. Aniruddha Malpani showed me the embryo and made sure the label had our names. I was thrilled to see it and I was just praying that it gets attached to my uterus and starts growing!
Embryo transfer procedure did not take much time and it was very smooth. Dr. Anjali Malpani was cool and made me feel very comfortable and relaxed.
2 weeks waiting period started from there! I did not focus much on the result until the 28th day when I started to get a bit anxious. The usually regular period did not arrive even on the 32nd day. I was sure that I'm pregnant. I took the HCG test and it was positive. I was excited and was thanking god and Drs.Malpani. I called the clinic and gave the good news to the staff nurse. Dr.Aniruddha was not in town but as soon as he got the news from the nurse he called me the same evening to congratulate me. This certainly shows their sincerity, dedication towards their patients. We informed our parents and they were also excited as they have been waiting for years to hear such wonderful news from us!
After a week ultrasound was done and Dr.Anjali confirmed single fetus. It was amazing to see that tiny dot on the screen and couldn't believe that I'm pregnant and a little one is growing inside me!
I'm now 11wks pregnant.
I would like to thank all the nurses in the clinic. They were friendly, caring, and knowledgeable and made me feel comfortable during my visits.
I recommend Drs. Malpani if anyone wants to undergo fertility treatment in India and especially in Mumbai. I haven't visited other fertility centers so I can't really compare. From my experience I would certainly say that Drs. Malpani are really caring, sincere in their efforts, passionate about their work, very warm and understand our emotional needs very well.
They are a wonderful team!
