IVF treatment or In vitro fertilization treatment could be your best option in case you are infertile. In a natural conception, the sperm and the egg meet inside the Fallopian tubes of the woman, where the egg gets fertilized. However, in case of IVF treatment, the eggs are removed from the female ovaries and are fertilized in the lab with sperm from the male. The embryo formed after fertilization is transferred implanted in the womb of the woman. The treatment cycle normally takes about two weeks.
When is IVF Treatment Offered?
There are better chances of conception in women who are younger, as the success rate has been shown to decrease in women who are above the age of forty years. However, in case an egg donor is used, the success rate remains high, even among women over 40. IVF treatment is usually pursued when other types of treatments have failed and the person is not able to get pregnant naturally. It is also the first choice in cases of male infertility; or where the Fallopian tubes of the woman are blocked.
IVF Success rates
No one can guarantee 100% success rate in one cycle. While the chances are very good for younger women, in some cases, it may take many attempts. The treatment is adjusted according to the individual needs of a specific couple. Because we have such high success rates, we can offer a guaranteed pregnancy treatment option. Once the period starts, you have to go in for an ultrasound scan, in order to check for cysts, and make sure you are down regulated (your ovaries are quiet). If the test is fine, the treatment moves on to the next step. Fertility drugs are then used for ovarian stimulation. Once the eggs are matured, they are retrieved. It is very normal for most women to be nervous at this stage, but you don’t have to worry about this, as most women go through it without pain, since it is done under mild general anesthesia. There are usually no side effects or complications in this process. You have to stay in the clinic for a few hours, and then go home. The semen sample of the man is used to fertilize the eggs and the embryo formed is inserted into the womb, either on Day 3 or Day 5.
