I had two miscarriages, both at 16 weeks. In my 1st pregnancy, the water broke and then after 2 days I miscarried, and in my 2nd pregnancy the contractions started and water broke after 5 hours and I miscarried. I was heartbroken and distraught.

When I visited a doctor for a second opinion, she did a HSG and said I have a uterine septum which needs to be removed through laparoscopy. The HSG was said to be showing a heart shaped uterus, and she said that it was because of this my uterus was not able to expand properly , which is why the baby was expelled.

For a second opinion , I visited Dr. Anirudda Malpani and Dr. Anjali Malpani, infertility specialists, who are my husband's friends. After looking at the HSG, they suggested that I should go for 3D sonography, since it will tell whether it was a septate or bicornuate uterus. The results showed that I had a subseptate uterus . They said this proved that there was no need to do the surgery on the uterus , since there was enough space in there for the baby to grow. They felt my correct diagnosis was an incompetent cervix and that I get a cervical cerclarge done at 12 weeks, once I conceive.

As suggested by Dr. Malpanis, we went for a cervical cerclarge at 12th week - and Hurray ! we got a cute baby girl on 11th June 2007. This was a normal delivery.

We thank both Dr. Aniruddha Malpani and Dr. Anjali Malpani for their advice and help. Without this, I have ended up going for surgery which is not required at all and which is bit dangerous too.

Thanks & Regards,
