Do You Feel that Your IVF Doctor is Incompetent?

There are times when a patient feels that her IVF doctor is incompetent. This could be because she has had to go through repeated treatments or the diagnosis may have been faulty; At times the patient may feel that her doctor just seems largely too preoccupied to provide her with the kind of treatment she should be getting. Regardless of what the reason, if you at any point feel that your doctor isn’t competent enough, its best to switch to another doctor and get a fresh medical diagnosis from one who you can trust.

This holds true not only in the case of IVF but for any other medical treatment as well. The patient can feel even more helpless if she is ill/incapacitated by disease. In case a person is physically challenged, he will also be short on energy and wouldn’t be able to go about his daily routine as usual. The simple fact is that a patient depends on his doctor to provide a solution; a temporary one to ensure that the symptoms go away and a permanent one to get him back to normal.

Why are some doctors incompetent?

In case you feel that your doctor is incompetent, it simply compounds these feelings, a hundred times over. There are a number of reasons why doctors could be incompetent, such as:

  • They may be under the influence of alcohol or drugs
  • They might be preoccupied with problems of their own and aren’t able to defocus from their own problems and focus on yours
  • Some just aren’t capable enough to handle the problem

At any point of your treatment, if you do feel that your doctor is under the influence of alcohol or drugs, it’s important that you follow the appropriate procedure & report him for incompetency. This will ensure that other patients after you don’t have to fall victim to misdiagnosis or any other medical errors. If you feel that your doctor isn’t paying you sufficient attention, tell them very politely to pay attention to your issue.

In case you still feel neglected, know that it’s time to switch to another doctor. If you have to go through repeated treatments and faulty diagnosis, it can give you the feeling that your doctor is incompetent and that he will do more harm than good, when it comes to dealing with your medical issue. Look for a doctor that you can trust and one whose ability and competency you can believe in.

A matter of prejudice

Keep in mind, that there could be times when your doctor might not be incompetent at all and that he may just seem that way because you aren’t too satisfied with the treatment approach they are taking. At times it could be some other prejudice that makes you feel this way. However, if for any reason you do sense complacency or incompetence in your doctor, make the switch to another one without delay.

Follow your instincts

Recently researchers at the Morgan Institute for Health Policy at the Massachusetts General Hospital & Harvard Medical School, Boston, conducted a study and found that 1/3rd of the doctors who had been surveyed didn’t report colleagues who they knew had been impaired or incompetent because of alcohol, drugs etc.

This is definitely a very frightening scenario and if you are going to get treated by someone who even their peers don’t trust, how can you even be confident that you will recover? In simple words, if you instinctively feel that you can’t trust your doctor, just follow your instinct as its your health and life that’s at stake here. Find someone you can trust.
